The National Eligibility Test (NET) is organized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for those who aspire a career in academics and lectureship.
Many students choose to stick to self-study and others step out in a search for coaching classes with guided syllabus pattern and regular revisions. There is no upper age limit to appear for this examination of lectureship.
The test is conducted across 91 cities. The English stream in UGC NET comprises of three question papers, Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 3. The contents of Paper 1 are common for all subjects, and include questions from general aptitude, teaching, research, and so on. The maximum marks allotted for this paper is 100. The paper mainly consists of multiple-choice questions.
Paper 2 & Paper 3 consists of questions only from English Subject. Questions from the PG-course are quite common in this paper. Consisting of 100 questions, each of 2 marks and adding up to 200, this paper is meant to be solved within 120 minutes.
Negative marking does not apply in these papers, and all the questions asked will be of the objective type.
A maximum of three attempts are allowed for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) position, whereas, no such limit applies for lectureship attempts. The candidates appearing for JRF position must not be above 30 years of age (relaxation as per government norms is valid). For Assistant Professors, no age limit is applicable.
The candidates are required to fill the application-form online. The e-certificates are provided to the successful candidates by UGC NET. The certificates can be downloaded and printed according to their convenience.
