The National Eligibility Test (NET) is organised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for those who aspire a career in academics and lectureship. Where some candidates stick to self-study with all the schedule preparation and syllabus divisions, others step out in a search for coaching classes with guided study pattern and regular revisions. There is no upper age limit to appear for this examination of lectureship.
Conducted across 91 cities, the Commerce stream in UGC NET comprises of two question papers, paper 1 and paper 2. The contents of paper 1 are common for all subjects and include questions from general aptitude, teaching, research and so on. It consists of 50 questions to be solved in 60 minutes. The maximum marks allotted for this paper is 100.
Paper 2 consists of questions only from Commerce. Questions from the PG-course are quite common in this paper. Consisting of 100 questions, each of 2 marks and adding up to 200, this paper is meant to be solved within 120 minutes.
Negative marking is not applicable on these papers, and all the questions will be of the objective type.
For the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) position, a maximum of three attempts are allowed, whereas, for lectureship, there is no limit to the number of attempts. The candidates are required to fill the application form online. UGC NET provides e-certificates to the candidates which can be downloaded and printed according to their convenience. The candidates appearing for JRF position must not be above 30 years of age (relaxation as per government norms is valid). For Assistant Professors, no such age limit applies.
